What are FAQ's?
FAQ is the abreviation of "frequently asked questions".
Generally, these three letters stand for a document that answers the
most important questions asked about a topic in the internet. In this
case you will receive the answers to the most frequently-asked and
previously unanswered questions about our flamenco school.
- Where is the flamenco studio?
The studio is situated on the Erfringerstrasse 84 in Basle - The entrance
is on the right of the display window (see map at the bottom!).
- What is taught?
At the moment we are teaching about 10 different varieties of flamenco
classes. For example the folk dance Sevillanas, Bulerías, Algerías,
Tangos, Rumbas, Colombianas and many other flamenco dances. Unfortunately,
all enquiries about Salsa, Merenge and other latinamerican dances have
to be referred to other dance schools, some of which are listed on our
links-page.
- Seviallans, Bulerías, Alegrías, Tangos, Rumbas ...
what are they?
The most important flamenco dances are explained in brief on our special
"what is flamenco?" page (only available in German!).
- Are private lessons available?
Private lessons can be booked on arrangement.
- Who teaches the flamenco lessons?
All the lessons are taught by the Spanish Silvia Crego (-Veuillet).
- Trial lessons?
We will give you the first flamenco lesson for free, so you try out
our offer and our premises.
- What should I wear?
We recommend that you (female) should, even for the trial lesson, wear
a leotard, a skirt/dress and flat outdoor shoes or if possible flamenco
shoes. The same rules apply for our male students, only you don't have
to wear a skirt/dress ;-)
- I don't have any dancing experience, can I still learn flamenco?
Of course, everyone had to start somewhere!
- Am I too old and unfit for flamenco?
No one is too old or too unfit for dancing. The physical well-being
is the most important factor. Regardless if 35, 45 or over 60, we teach
everyone who enjoys dancing and life. As long as your medical consultant
has no objections, you can dance.
- I am not Spanish, can I still learn flamenco?
Sure, flamenco doesn't claim that it can only be learnt by the Spanish.
After all, the Japanese aren't the only ones who practice Judo are they?
- Should I come on my own or with a partner?
Flamenco is one of the few dances that does not require a dance partner.
If a partner is required, for instance with the Sevillana, there are
more then enough nice and willing dance students in our school.
- How long does it take until I have learnt a first dance?
Unlike other courses, our dances are not booked per lesson. Instead,
a dance is learnt at the pace that the group requires. The programme
is therefore individually tailored to fit the group.
- Can I train in the studio outside the official dance lesson times?
Certainly, during the official training times, students belonging to
our school are allowed to train for free in the space provided. For
all other times, you can hire out the studio; aks for our prices.
- Student performances
We organise special public (voluntary) appearances that all our students
can take part in, to give them the opportunity to perform their acquired
skills in front of an audience. Previous appearances include the "200
year celebration" of the roman catholic church on the Münsterplatz
in 1998, Basle's 1st August National day celebration at Schifflände
in 1999, the performances at the Basle youth culture festival in May
2000 and at the WBZ in Reinach and many others.
- Performances for company events, weddings, parties, fashion shows
etc.
Pasión Flamenco has a lot of experience in performing professional
flamenco appearances. You can find a small selection of our references
on our website. The cost of a flamenco show depends on the number of
participating flamenco dancers and guitarists and any further expenditures.
Various arrangements can be booked, but a personal consultation is necessary
first!
- Gift Vouchers
If requested we can make up gift vouchers for any amount for various
courses and for private lessons. Maybe an idea for a birthday or Christmas
present, or as a gift for a loved one?
